The Green Party is a value-based organization. The fundamental values (See our Ten Key Values) we adhere to, inform who we are and how we act.
We seek to promote a new kind of politics -- one that:
- respects its citizens
- lives up to the term democracy
- is capable educating and engaging the public
- putting into office a new kind of ethical, aware, informed, accountable and responsible representative.
Among other things, we work for a growing grassroots democracy, gender equality, and respect for diversity. We seek a rebirth of democracy in the United States.
The Green Party is also a platform-based organization. That means you can read about what we stand for, our visions, programs and goals. We do not change according to the bank account of the next front-runner. Indeed, we seek members and candidates for office who understand and respect our platform.
Read through the platform when you get a chance. It is a rich, textured and holistic document. It is a recipe for dignity, justice, peace, security, sustainable growth, and democracy in an ever-expanding world.
What is our role?
The traditional parties have largely failed in their obligation to represent the people. Other small parties have advocated sweeping change (peaceful or otherwise) for decades with little result. It is time to educate the public, and present candidates for office who are advocates for change. Someone has to do it. We have taken on that role
Many Green Party members are also involved in other issue advocacy groups. They discuss and participate in many of the local and national issues that concern other citizens groups and movements. We incorporate many of the values, and we have constant exchanges with these groups, participating in, supporting, and encouraging their goals.
We offer something that is unique to the world of non-governmental organizations (NGO's) -- unlike other organizations, we can run candidates for office. We have a clear, progressive, democratic, state-of-the art Platform and the Ten Key values that define our goals and directions, so when we offer candidates, they will be men and women who support those ideals and practices.
For a rebirth of democracy!
