GREEN gets precinct victories in School Board race!

Miami-Dade Green Party activist Nicholas Cole, the first Green running for office in Miami-Dade County won several precincts while placing second Tuesday in the technically non-partisan race for Miami-Dade School Board, District 2. Running a grassroots anti-corruption campaign based on the Green Key Values, seeking more money and resources for the classrooms, and none for politicians' and developers' pockets, Nicholas came in second of three winning with up to 43% in some precincts!. Overall, with 95% of the precincts reporting, he received 23.1% of the vote.

This marks the first precinct wins by a Green in South Florida.

Nicholas, relatively unknown in the district was helped regular press coverage in the Miami Herald during the campaign and was featured in the Biscayne Bay Tribune. Another boost was receiving the endorsement of the National Women's' Caucus of Miami-Dade County. He had worked for years as a special ed teacher and also was a substance abuse counselor. He was drawn to the Green Party during the Nader campaign of 2000.

His strong showing reflects a growing concern on the part of the electorate for accountability, decency, and ethics by our elected officials.

Let this be but the start of electoral advances for Nicholas and the Miami-Dade Green Party. On to the state races in November (the Green Party of Florida has candidates in 4 counties), then on to 2003 and 2004!
